Hi all, new to this forum and the Arduino (and electronics in general; besides what I did in my Physics 101 course at college).

I just ordered my Arduino board today and some other little tidbits (LEDs, a piezo, etc). My goal for a first project on my arduino is a circuit that detects peak sounds in music (like a kick drum maybe?) and lights up random LEDs (to get a variety in color). How feasible does this sound for a first project?

Sorry if this isn't in the right forum...

Hello and welcome! :)

I would say that this is a quite difficult first project. Maybe even too difficult.

I think you should complete a few of these tutorials and see if you have an idea on how to implement the project. (Both what hardware to use and how to program the Arduino)

The Knight Rider is a very popular first project.
Make a nice case with some leds, and have them chase each other in eternity :]

Whatever you choose: Remember to have fun, and report back to us!
Good luck  :D

Thanks a lot, greatly appreciated. Off topic question: Anyone know where Sparkfun is located? Just wondering when my stuff will get here.
