has anybody had any luck in compiling ruby/serialport
(http://ruby-serialport.rubyforge.org/) for an intel based osx?
I try to run extconf.rb as per the instructions, but get an error
message:

"checking for OS... darwin
checking for termios.h... no
*** extconf.rb failed ***
Could not create Makefile due to some reason, probably lack of
necessary libraries and/or headers.  Check the mkmf.log file for more
details.  You may need configuration options."

i have googled extensively, but haven't found any info about
this. it would be interesting to know if this applies to my machine
only, or if it is a general problem. (btw, xcode is installed on my
computer)

any help is much appreciated,
helge

I have had no problems on my non Intel OS X box.

Can you tell me if you have installed the xcode developer tools that are required for the make to work.

The xcode tools are available on your OS X install disk.

I've also installed this both on my newer Intel MacBook Pro and my old PPCBook. Never had any problems with it -- though the rubyforge page is not necessarily too reassuring on the subject of Mac compatibility and you definitely need to have the Developer Tools installed. I know they're available as a free download from Apple if you can't find your OS install disk...
