Well the site is still pretty quick, however tonight I've noticed that there are some postings being dropped from some of the active threads?

None of the ones before yours showed up when I visited this thread, but in typing this reply, I do see the entire history of them.
Strange...

For me, this site continues to be painfully slow - esp around 15:00 GMT. I now have to carefully pick what posts I want to read.

Yes, I always wondered what the server is doing between 15:00 -17:00 GMT. The Site is simply unusable in the afternoon (MET) Eberhard

I find the site to be nearly unusable any time other than the middle of the night. The errors are "500 Internal Server Error". It could be a lack of bandwidth, or even the software they are using.
If the owner decided to switch from YaBB to other software (phpBB, vBulletin), I would be more than happy to donate some of my time in helping with the changeover.

The middle of the night is the right time to view this forum as we're being kept in the dark about it. :-X Wonder why we're seeing so many double posts lately?

...switch from YaBB to other software (phpBB, ... I like that idea; ladyada uses phpBB for her forums (fora?) and it seems smoother.

It's not as if the idea of a change is a new one... many people here have already made plans on how to change everything to a new forum but keeping the old links active and so on.. it's simply a shame the team here doesnt leave 'us' the work... many here would gladly do it.

Believe me, Mike, I calculated the odds of this succeeding against the odds I was doing something incredibly stupid[ch8230] and I went ahead anyway.

I think the best idea on this topic is to lock the current, and start a new. This time, with some guidelines, a larger 'staff of moderators' and some stickys.
There are a lot of great information here, but I think it could be exponentially better if the forum was a tool, not a challenge.

Why do the old links have to die? If you installed new forum software, imported the old database, but left a copy of the old forums active but read-only, the old links would still work, and the traffic would be reduced because there would be new forums.

Are you guys sure that the current forum problems are the direct result of the forum SW? Are we mixing two issues?
I'd like to see a nicer forum too, but, at least, I'd like to be able use what we currently have - had.

I suggested that it could either be bandwidth issues or forum issues, and just suggested the idea of switching (and that Id volunteer my time). No one but the webmasters know what the problem REALLY is

A small but important correction:
The webmasters SHOULD know what the real problem is.
