Hi, there are several instructions in the WWW to increase ESP8266 Flash size. The microcontroller should be able to handle up to 128 mbit (16 MByte), but the IDE supports max. (32mbit = 4 MByte) in the pop up menu "Tools -> Flash size".

Even if the flash size should be restricted to 4 MB in the IDE it would be nice for a 16 MByte ESP board to give really 12..14 MB for the SPIFFS.
