Author Topic: Arduino + HiLo GSM/GPRS Module  (Read 1976 times)

Hi guys.
 i can't really find any good "get started" info on this problem. I've tried to follow this guide: http://www.libelium.com/squidbee/index. ... lo_-_Sagem ) However i can't get it to run at all. I've switched the "Mode" jumpers to USB and i've removed the IC from the Ardo board. I've plugged in the USB cable and GSM card and the board powers up but i don't know if the HiLo module gets any power or if it's running (no indicator?). Then i start putty/cutecom and put the budrate to anything between 0 and 921600 and connect to the USB serial port that the board is registered at. When i'm connected i press t he on/off button for 2-3 sec and... nothing.. As i understand it i should get a PSSTK (welcome) message but i don't get anything. Twice, can't remember with wich settings, i got a few (15-30) \0x00 sent to the serial output and once i only got one \0x00 but i imagine it has very little to do with the module. I've tried switching the power input to external supply and plug in a 12v 1.5A source just to be sure that the board is properly powered but with no luck. What else, humm.. yea i've tried different SIM cards, unplug and replug t he "controlercard" on the GSM module without luck. Tried two different Arduino boards (Uno and Duemilanove). Any ideas? Am i this stupid really? :P Thanks in advance guys, you would save me a load of headake on this one! //written on my phone :(

I have this GSM Quadband Module and i have never got this PSSTK message.

Remove the ic from the arduino and set the 2 jumper to USB.
1. Switch the power input to external supply and set the power jumper.
2. Set the baudrate to 115200 bps and open the serial port, then press the ON button for two seconds.
3. Then if you type AT Important type commands in capital letters and followed by CR (carriage return) and LF (line feed), the i think you'll get OK, this means that the communication with the module is working fine.

Did you remember to set the power jumper?

Odd, the guide i followed must be for a similar module but not this exact one then, and that would explain a lot smiley

Thank  you  for  that link, don't know why i followed the Libelium guide in the first place since i bought the module from cooking-hacks. But i'm afraid none of the tips helped, can't get any reponse from the board at all.

I've put the jumpers in the right position, followed the guide accordingly.
The only thing i haven't done is solder (or just put) a 220µF capacitor on the  5V and GND because i have a external powersupply that generate "enought" power what i thought.

Edit: Here's my CuteCom settings and output after sending a AT+[CRLF] command.

The 220µF capacitor is only if the power come from the Arduino, and that i never got to work.

So how did you connect the external power supply? It has to be connected directly on you gsm module, i did that wrong the first day and got also nothing from the module so connect it directly.

Thank you! Was a bit afraid that i would have fried the circuit!

Oh, so basically i gotta solder on the external power supply right onto the module?
I just put the external power supply into the external jack on the Ardo card which was logical to me..

But now when mention it, there's no pins connecting the module to the Vin, 5V or 3V pins on the Ardo card :/
Crap i'm stupid.. so solder pen tomorrow i guess smiley

Hi

For the Hilo module at cooking-hack din't not have any lib so i took the lib they use for the Waspmote GPRS libelium and converted it to the Hilo module and so that it fit the Arduino.
