Hi all,

I'm building a grid of over 100 bright RGB LEDs on shift registers, connected to an Arduino. When it's all lit up (which it will only do briefly and occasionally) it draws about 4A. I'm trying to determine how to power this with batteries.

I'm thinking I'll get something like this:

and connecting it to a high capacity 2-cell (7.4v) LiPoly battery. I'd be powering both the Arduino and the lights directly off the UBEC.

Does this make sense? Are there any gotchas I need to look out for?

That should work fine. Only concerns are the normal ones about using Li-Po batteries, don't allow them to overdischarge and only charge them with Li-Po charges designed for your cells.
