Hello, I don't know much about DVR's besides that it can record digital media to an HDD or DVD so that you can watch it later. I have also been looking at  DVD/hard drive recorder. Can someone explain to me the difference between a DVR and a DVD/hard drive recorder? and what features do both of them have?
Here is a webpage I found of a DVD/hard drive recorder.

https://www.amazon.com/Magnavox-MDR535-500GB-Recorder-Digital/dp/B009L04DCQ/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1529767895&sr=1-7&keywords=dvd%2Fhdd+recorder
Thanks!

How is this related to Arduino or general electronics?  Don't you think this would be better asked on a forum dedicated to video recording equipment?

technically speaking, it would be General electronics. Do you happen to know of a good forum?

well then, why even reply?
I posted to ask how this was Arduino related and why in the world you would want to post such a thing here.

Then you asked me a stupid question that would have been answered much faster and better by google.  You seem to have a knack for asking the wrong people.  Think about what you want to know and think about who would know it.

No I don't know a good place to ask about DVR equipment.  I just know it isn't here.  And I know it shouldn't be hard for anyone with at least mild intelligence to find.

A DVD/hard drive recorder is a kind of DVR.     You'll just have to compare the features of various devices.

If you get a DVR from your cable company there may be no way of transferring or permanently saving a program to a "computer file".

Some cable broadcasts may be copy protected... I don't know.    In that case you can probably make a standard-definition copy from the analog connections to a DVD/hard drive recorder, but you'd have to use the cable company's DVR to save HD broadcasts.    (All commercial DVDs, Blu-Rays, and even VHS tapes are copy protected.)

I once assumed all these threads --- eg. 'general electronics' were to be taken literally. However, I also found out (in the way you're doing now) that it generally needs to be arduino-related. Eg...... voltage divider for decreasing a voltage for satisfying arduino-pin voltage requirements etc.

There is certainly nothing wrong with asking certain questions. However, with the long-time existence of google, answers to so many questions can be found with google. Eg. the question you asked can easily be found using google. Eg.... google "difference between DVR and DVD/HDD recorder". Or look up definitions in google --- eg "DVD/HDD recorder", and "DVR". Also, look up "PVR".

This thread is usually about circuits ---- discussions at circuit level (that somehow ties back to arduino) ...... rather than non-arduino related consumer appliances.

Thanks, DVDdoug for response and thank you Southpark for the explanation, I did not know and will take that into considerations. I appreciate it the responses :)  :)
