Topic: Upload to Uno never finished, "An error occured while uploading the sketch" (Read 290 times) previous topic - next topic

So, this error is a new one to me. It appears to be uploading, the TX/RX LEDs blink for a little bit, then the stop and the IDE just sits there saying "Uploading" and eventually it says "An error occured while uploading the sketch".

I'm assuming it's an issue with my sketch, which is quite large. It uses 98% of the program space, but I don't know why that would break anything. I've tried this on two computers. I've disconnected all shields from the board for the upload, nothing helps.

I'm using 1.8.5, and I've attached the sketch in case anybody has any ideas or pointers here.

Has anyone ever seen this before? Thanks!

EDIT: If you actually try to compile it, you'll need the FemtoCow SPIRAM24 library, and the Adafruit_GFX and Adafruit_TFTLCD libraries.

Please do this:
  • File > Preferences > Show verbose output during: > compilation (uncheck) > upload (check) > OK
  • Sketch > Upload
  • After the upload fails you'll see a button on the right side of the orange bar "Copy error messages". Click that button.
  • Paste the error messages in a reply here USING CODE TAGS (</> button on the toolbar).

Here's what it gives me. Same result on the other PC I tried.

Problem uploading to board.  See http://www.arduino.cc/en/Guide/Troubleshooting#upload for suggestions.

I figured it out. My AVR's flash has finally started failing. Fair enough, I've had it for 7 years. I picked up a new Uno and it works fine.

There are older versions of the bootloader that have an upload limit of 30kBytes due to a bug in the bootloader code. This may also be the cause. I find it very hard to actually exceed the upload limit of 10,000 writes :-)
