Topic: Problem with new Arduino Ethernet board (Read 57 times) previous topic - next topic

I just purchased a new Arduino Ethernet board (the new integrated board, not the separate ethernet shield) and can't get it to run ethernet sketches.  I have an older Arduino with ethernet shield (R3) that works fine but the same sketches, even the included example ethernet sketches, will not run correctly on the new board.

The sketches load fine and ones that give serial feedback show that it fails to make a network connection.  Other simple sketches all seem to work fine (blink, etc.) as long as they don't need to make a network connection.  So the programming via FTDI seems to be working.

The info page for the Arduino Ethernet mentions having the latest bootloader but the given link is broken.

Can't think of what else to try.  Any ideas or is it just a bad board?

Some of the examples are missing the DNS Server Address argument to Ethernet.begin().  This causes the Subnet Mask to be used as the Gateway Address so nothing will work.  Try removing everything but the MAC Address argument from the call to Ethernet.begin() to see if getting an address via DHCP will let you make a connection.

If you need a fixed IP address you can put the Gateway Address in twice if no DNS Server Address is being passed.
