Just bought a Arduino Micro. Followed these steps:
*Plugged it in.
*Installed the IDE
*Loaded up the IDE
*Loaded up the Blink example
*Changed the board to the Micro board. Checked COM1 was the port.
*Clicked compile.
*Clicked upload....
Failed.... Installed the IDE over again around 5-6 times. Still doesnt work...

Google doesnt help at all. Followed all the steps on the guide.

And lastly, the micro doesnt even show up in the device manager!
And the error:

Any idea what the problem is? And how to fix it?

iv'e spent that last 4 hours on this. Just gave up and said F it, i going to make a post. I already pulled my hair out...

EDIT: Interestingly enough, if i click "upload" without the Micro plugged in, i get the same error.

How did you determine that the proper serial port for it was COM1?

It was the only one. Also, the Micro doesn't show up in the device manager anywhere.
Could it be defective?

If the Micro doesn't show up as a USB device then something is defective.  Could be the USB port on your computer, or the cable, or something on the Micro: hardware or software.

Thanks for the quick reply.
I'll return it back to Radio Shack tomorrow. Interestingly enough, your profile picture looks like the guy that sold me the item.

Steak:

Spent a good 24 hours grappling with the same issue. Apparently the latest IDE (1.6.3) is not compatible with Windows 7. Sorry, I think you're SOL.

See my last two posts on this page: http://forum.arduino.cc/index.php?topic=58877.15

It's a few years old.  My hair is shorter now. :)
