Hi all, I have just drafted a shield for the arduino to add 29 digital outs (32 in total, but uses 3 pins on the board). I built the prototype on a breadboard, then strip board, and just waiting for a sample run (only 3 boards) back from a fab. Just wanted to know if anyone out there would be interested in these shields, as I am on limited income, I would order these as required (in batches of 3 - But takes about 2 weeks to arrive here (UK)), and supply bare-board. I can build them, but will install pins only (no top headers), as I cant get them cheap enough. I've still to get them priced as they were part of a mixed batch.

I'll post a Photo when they arrive.

The shield uses 4 X 74hc595 daisy chained together, the shield uses pins 2,3 & 4 for operation, and is fitted with a reset button. The shield is designed for switching SMALL loads, e.g. LEDs or idealy - transistors to switch larger loads.  OR you could miltiplex 256 LEDs in a 16 X 16 matrix. OR control a robot with 32 functions (or 256 with a little bit of smart programming and a few extra components per channel.

Someone was writing a library a while back that interfaced with N shift regs, ie you did something like newDigitalWrite (27, HIGH) and it shifted out the appropriate bits.

You should try to track that down and maybe package it with your board.

Sounds like the EZ-Expander shield I make, but you have twice as many shift registers/outputs:

To be honest, Macetech's Centipede shield is a superior solution at a good price (64 pins for $25)

Hi nootropic, I saw your board, but needed more outputs for my control system, I'm going to send these board to anyone that wants one for COST+POST - Not populating them with components.  I think from the tabs on your board that you get them produced by the same guy I do, so you know the high quality boards he gets made.

Anyway, thanks very much for the input.

I use Gold Phoenix PCB for all my boards.

I'm interested - how do you plan to circulate/supply/sell them?
any ideas on price?

also are they though-hole or smd?
there are only 10 types of people
them that understands binary
and them that doesn't

Hi mmcp42, I plan to sell them at cost+postage (not interested on making profit) payment VIA paypal - The boards are still 'in the post' to myself, as I get different boards made I have not got the breakdown invoice yet (just a full amount for all my boards, but working it out to about £7.50) - also depends on what you want : board only, kit with parts or built. e.g. board only £7.50 + £2 for 4*shift register chips + £1.50 for pin headers. P+P is generaly £1.50 (pays for padded envelope & 1st class postage).

The boards are through hole, so easy to assemble, the shield uses pins 2,3 and 4.

Hope this helps
