Topic: Correct capacitors for Voltage Regulator ? (Read 742 times) previous topic - next topic

Hi All

Needing to drop 13.8v to 5v to power my Arduino.

Have done some searching and found the following Voltage Reg : LM7805CT : Reg Standard Lin Fix Pos 5V 2.2A 3TO-220

In the data sheet, I think I understand correctly that I need 2 capacitors : 0.33uF and 0.1uF.

Can anyone please confirm for me that the following 2 items are in fact the correct thing :

TIA.

Yes they will work but VASTLY overpriced and over-rated for what you need.  These are rated at 850volts DC.  All you need are something rated at 50 volts maximum - you'll find 100 volts or so pretty standard and cost less than £1 each. Something like this, though you'll find them much cheaper at the likes of Maplins

Top link is 0,33 µF
bottom link is 0,1µF

is this what you wanted to know ?  these are pretty pricy though,

As long as they will suit the job, I will have to use them. Availability of choice in Africa is a bit limited, and we have a huge government surcharge on imported goods.

Exchange rates at the moment are about 1:11, so our R13.00 is about £1.18

Thanks

.1uF (100nF) ceramic: http://za.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=5381449
.33uF aluminum: http://za.rs-online.com/web/search/searchBrowseAction.html?method=getProduct&R=0116975

Much cheaper.

Thanks a million, Chagrin. I have changed my order on your suggestions.

Sometimes it's a bit difficult finding the right component, especially as a newbie and not knowing how everything in the online stores is classified.

Again, my Thanks.
Dave
