Where's you inauguration speech, then? :)

AWOL

I can't remember which of AC Clarke's novel where he mentioned that the best candidate for the White House is (obviously) not the one who spends millions on his election, but the one dragged kicking and screaming into the Oval Office and chained to the desk, but intent on doing a good job in the hope that he'll get time off for good behaviour.

That candidate is me.

I was hoping for responsibility over one (very low post count) section and anonymity.  Instead I now have the Keys to the Kingdom and Big Bright Blue Stars.  Adjuva nos Deus.

there's a similar reference in Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

them that understands binary
and them that doesn't

Yes, maybe, like Beeblebrox, I'm simply a distraction.

That quote is from an H. Beam Piper novel, a couple actually!
"Lone Star Planet" imediatly springs to mind!
If anyone has read it, think of the politicians that could be held accountable for
"Political Malfeiesence"!

That's odd, because not only have I never heard of the author, I've obviously never read any of their work.

Holy Crap!

WTF!

H. beam Piper was THE cornerstone of Del!

If you want some good, solid, science fiction, NOT written by a mysogonistic piece of woman fearing/hating crap, read
Uller Uprising
Lord Kalvin Of OtherWhen
Space Viking
the Fuzzy books

Piper was a freakin genious, back when Clarke, Asimov and Heinlen were writing thier "classics", Piper actually had, wait for it...
Women in his stories.
Yes!
in the 50's - 60's!
And they were not just there for "window dressing"
We are talking strong female characters, in the 50's, 60's, long before Germain Greer burnt her bra!

forget Clark(likes liitle boys), Asimov(seriously gay), Heinlien(just way messed up)
jump straight to
H. Beam Piper
Jack Vance (this guy is the genisis of D&D)
Clifford Simak

before you guys jump on me,
consider this...

Ellery Queen is one of Jack Vance's creations
forget google, its wrong!

lol

Lots of Piper available free for download.

There's more. Maybe some at the Baen free library, or maybe at Tor.

Anyway, if you want some good, solid science fiction, NOT written by a guy, you should check out Octavia E. Butler (Xenogenesis / Lilliths Brood) and Ursula K. LeGuinn (Left Hand of Darkness)

Another author I find somewhat overlooked is David Brin.
