Does anyone know if it's possible to use the Arduino Mega ADK to get readings from a USB mouse?
and if so can is get x and y?

It can be done quite easily with a PS/2 mouse:

It should work on the ADK. Communicating with a USB mouse would be significantly harder though. I'd assume you would need the drivers for the specific device, and program them into the arduino. I'd stick to PS/2, personally.

What kind of signals does a ps/2 mouse send does it keep track of the x and y or does it send a single to tell the microcontroller to increase x or y

The libraries provided in the previous links will sort out the communication for you. As for keeping track of the x/y, I really don't know. Some experimenting should reveal the answer, and either way, it should be pretty easy to do.
