I'm building another one (many prototypes shown on youtube, and other places) pulseoximeter.
But I'd like to make it's source and hardware open, to make it easy for everyone to use it with arduino or other devices.

The goal is to build a separate digital/analog sensor
(both digital and analog outputs are possible) for arduino and other devices (like andriod smartphones) with possibility to log data for future reference.

As for now I have working prototype that graphs pulses on computer based on data from serial port.
In a day or two I plan to complete code for detecting pulses (maybe with comparator).

Device built with low-cost, widely used components, processing with arduino and processing (http://processing.org/) for displaying data on PC for testing purposes.
I'm working on signal processing now to output data in digital form.

I have no any project page, hope to do some pictures and videos this weekend.
I'd like to know, if it's interesting to someone and maybe some suggestions on the right direction to move further.

I am working on this project :

pulse oximeter <------->Jeenode(1)<-------->Jeenode(2)<-->Sim300(GSM GPRS)

Jeenode is smaller version of Arduino having with wireless module, and this can be operate through battery 6 V mini I called this node as Jeenode(1) now this node will wirelessly connect to remote Jeenode(2) which is having Sim300 Module.

I did something similar with a schoolproject, picking up pulses using a phototransistor and output it to a sound card. For amplification I just used a single npn transistor as the pulse signals were too weak. I also found a lot of noise came along, so if it helps I found one of the best ways of removing noise was to use either a shield at the back of the thumb and reduce the sample rate to about 8-10 samples per second, that way you do away withthe need of a low pass filter.

Hello !

i also did something similar in a school project  smiley-eek For this projet i use a light-to-frequency converter (like TSL220) and two LEDs : a RED one and an infrared one alternatively powered with a 555 timer circuit.

The frequency signal was connected to a PC sound-card and the signal analysed with Labview. I don't know if it could help you, but i also made a plastic piece (by machining) which supports the light sensor and the two LEDs and a hole to put your finger in it, in order to avoid perturbation of ambient room light.

I'll search in my old PC folders to find this project files and if i find something interresting i will inform you smiley-wink
