I'm in Birmingham too, and would be very interested in any meetups within a reasonable distance (which Newcastle is not, unfortunately)!

Don't forget that there will be the first UK Maker Faire in Newcastle in March 2009 (March 14th/15th).  I hope to make the trip there from Bristol, probably with the Arduino.

I didn't know that have you a link to any info?

Maybe we should organise a meeting to coincide with that event so people could travel for them both?

The maker Faire looks really good. I will definately be going and would be happy to advise people on where to stay and maybe we could meet up for a drink and discuss more regular meetings

I will definitely be going, not sure which day yet.

Its a long drive up there, I might take a flight instead.

Yes I will be going but I think I would like to exhibit some of my projects, and I have looked at the information for prospective exhibitors.

However, rather it just be me how about if we inaugurate  a "North of England Arduino Group".  This would allow others to come up and show some stuff, and get some email addresses for a possible workshop and meeting. It might also give me a chance to look round as well as manning the stand.  :)

How about if we share a stand, do you know how much it cost?

Yep it's free.   :)

After all you are populating the event for them and your not selling anything.

There are all sorts of conditions like equipment has to be PAT tested but I can handle that sort of thing.

I'll send you a private mail, look out for the notification on the top banner.

That sounds like a great idea, i dont have that much exciting stuff to show, but it might be nice to have some more simpler things on show as well for people to play with, i have quite a few bits and pieces plus a couple of spare old laptops that people could play with to try programming arduino etc.

Let me know what you think, send me a PM if you want to talk about it more

I would be interested in a NE England meetup.  I'm currently in Edinburgh but I'm happy to travel to Carlisle, Newcastle or anywhere in the same area.

I have very little experience with electronics and have only just started playing around with Arduino but I'm looking forward to learning more.

The maker faire looks very interesting.  Definitely worth at least a day.  If I could meet a few people from here it would be even better.

Just got confirmation that my application to exhibit at the Newcastle Maker Fair (why do they spell it faire?) has been accepted so I will be there showing my stuff.

I also hope to join with a few others and have a first meeting of the "North of England Arduino Group" on the Saturday night after the first day.

The plan is to give out flyers at the show and see who turns up. So if you are interested in going, make it the Saturday rather than the Sunday so you can attend both events.

If you want to help out on the stall give me a shout.

See you there.

My UK101 exhibit has also been accepted at the Maker Faire!  The PAT testing this sounds a bit onerous, though.  That, and/or expensive.

Great  :)
Look forward to seeing you there.

The PAT testing this sounds a bit onerous

I did ask them about that and if they were going to have an "on site testing" or "PAT Police" and they said they would get back.
In essence PAT testing is quick and simple to do and shouldn't carry much of a charge. I am trying to get most of my stuff tested at work by saying I bring it in to use sometime.
