NE England Workshops and Meeting

The maker Faire looks really good. I will definately be going and would be happy to advise people on where to stay and maybe we could meet up for a drink and discuss more regular meetings

I will definitely be going, not sure which day yet.

Its a long drive up there, I might take a flight instead.

Yes I will be going but I think I would like to exhibit some of my projects, and I have looked at the information for prospective exhibitors.

However, rather it just be me how about if we inaugurate a "North of England Arduino Group". This would allow others to come up and show some stuff, and get some email addresses for a possible workshop and meeting. It might also give me a chance to look round as well as manning the stand.

Mike,

How about if we share a stand, do you know how much it cost?

Yep it's free.

After all you are populating the event for them and your not selling anything.

There are all sorts of conditions like equipment has to be PAT tested but I can handle that sort of thing.

I'll send you a private mail, look out for the notification on the top banner.

That sounds like a great idea, i dont have that much exciting stuff to show, but it might be nice to have some more simpler things on show as well for people to play with, i have quite a few bits and pieces plus a couple of spare old laptops that people could play with to try programming arduino etc.

Let me know what you think, send me a PM if you want to talk about it more

I would be interested in a NE England meetup. I'm currently in Edinburgh but I'm happy to travel to Carlisle, Newcastle or anywhere in the same area.

I have very little experience with electronics and have only just started playing around with Arduino but I'm looking forward to learning more.

The maker faire looks very interesting. Definitely worth at least a day. If I could meet a few people from here it would be even better.

Just got confirmation that my application to exhibit at the Newcastle Maker Fair (why do they spell it faire?) has been accepted so I will be there showing my stuff.

I also hope to join with a few others and have a first meeting of the "North of England Arduino Group" on the Saturday night after the first day.

The plan is to give out flyers at the show and see who turns up. So if you are interested in going, make it the Saturday rather than the Sunday so you can attend both events.

If you want to help out on the stall give me a shout.

See you there.

My UK101 exhibit has also been accepted at the Maker Faire! The PAT testing this sounds a bit onerous, though. That, and/or expensive.

Great
Look forward to seeing you there.

The PAT testing this sounds a bit onerous

I did ask them about that and if they were going to have an "on site testing" or "PAT Police" and they said they would get back.
In essence PAT testing is quick and simple to do and shouldn't carry much of a charge. I am trying to get most of my stuff tested at work by saying I bring it in to use sometime.

Hi I am definitely interested in a group meeting. I am in the south lakes so pretty central to where everyone seems to be from.
I am a complete newbie to programming but just managed to alter the debounce program in 'getting started' to switch between leds so am feeling good about myself!
I was hoping to get to Newcastle but it looks like its not possible now, so could you keep us informed of any decisions made!

Thanks
Graham

OK,
We are definitely going to have a meeting on the Saturday evening of the 14th March. A room above a restaurant is being booked. Further details here or from my stand at the Maker Fair.

P.S. My wife says "why do they spell fair with a superfluous 'e' on the end"

You wife would be right to ask. My best guess is they couldn't decide between fair and fayre and decided to meet in the middle.

A few posts ago you asked if anyone was available to help on the stall. I would be willing to help out for a few hours if needed. I have almost zero experience but I'm willing to bring my naive and misinformed enthusiasm.

They've now got details up for the stalls: http://makerfaire.com/newcastle/2009/makers/
You site actually looks more professional than the site for the "2009 Fighting Robots UK Featherweight Championships"
Check the url for this page though: http://www.thebox.myzen.co.uk/Hardware/Arduino_Sheld.html

Thanks for the offer. I have done these sorts of shows many times before and the one problem is that I never seem to get the time to look round myself.

Thanks for the link update. I spent last weekend putting some LEDs along side each bar on the Glockenspiel so it's a bit more visual. I have also been doing some more work in getting different tunes on it so as not to drive near by stall holders too mad.

Plus there is my new surprise project that is not on the web yet. It looks like there will be enough of that working to make it worth showing. I hope to post a video of it the day before the show.

Well the URL works for me even if I can't spell Shield

I'll find you during the morning and we can discuss when you would need some help.

With regards to the shield page it works fine for me as well. I just wanted to make you aware of the typo.

Fair is over and done. I have posted some 3D pictures of some of it at :-

Red / green glasses to see the 3D ness of them.

Thanks for your help on the day streety it was a good show.

You're welcome. I enjoyed the day and it was nice to see so many groups using Arduino.

I hope Sunday went equally well.

Hi all
Did the meeting happen at Newcastle?
Was anything decided?
Are there enough interested parties to form a workshop?
thanks
Graham
