Hello fellow arduino lovers smiley
I'm planning on driving a 5.52 V, 0.6 A stepper motor using the L293D or SN754410.
Do you think I need some sort of opto-isolation (somthing like the ILD213T breakout from sparkfun) or would you consider it redundant?

Thanks,
Leeron

Most of the time it isn't necesary, and if you are going to be pushing those steppers anywhere their limits the optos will limit your max speed.

I've just tried driving a bipolar 4 wire with an SN754410NE/Uno/12v battery - not working yet.  Tried another similiar motor, also didn't work. They are both around 5V/.6A
