good place to live, I spent my under graduate years in that city, it holds some good memories.
I suppose I am just too used to living a bit out of the way in the quiet areas.

My proposal has also been accepted, so I'll be there with Compukit UK101 and Arduino!

I will have :-

Then there is the

In addition I expect to have three new projects currently under construction which I am keeping under wraps at the moment in case I can't finish them in time.

Yes, that was my one! In fact, I took three UK101 machines along last year, for the 30th anniversary.

Yes, along with Arduinos! Probably the generative music-making gadget, and some LED displays.

There's an announcement about the Maker Faire on the Make blog today:

Each to his/her own opinion on a city but IMHO <RANT> Newcastle is a fine city, with quite a few geeky events bubbling:
like Super Mondays for the IT crowd, Thursdayfizz for design, Dorkbot for wierd electronics, Dartarama for art of an opensource nature, also there is a Open Frameworks 3 day hack in Jan, and Toplap(livecoding event) is planned for later in the year.
The Maiker Faire is part of Newcastles Science Week and clashing with it is AVFest10, a digital media festival. Also have an anual barcamp, and Thinking Digital which is a bit like TED of the North.
We haven't even started on a hackerspaces... but like the idea. If you want to do postgraduate study, Newcastle Uni has a Masters of Research in Digital Media, they use Arduino as one of their protoyping tools, and occasionally have residents from Eyebeam and ITP, New York.
(havent even started on the media events, the volunteer run cinema, etc etc)
</RANT>

Anyway, for you out of towners, am building a google map for the event
http://www.google.co.uk/maps/ms?ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&msid=108624159303607787776.00047d142829127d08742&z=14

At the moment, it only has the venue and a nearby hostel, but let me know what you want on it like bars or food, last year was fun and looking forward to this years!

Cheers
Brian

@sctv, thanks for posting the list of events.

I see there's a Dorkbot (Newcastle) meeting this Wednesday 20/1 at the Centre for Life in the Lifelab Welcome Room from 7.30 to 9pm.

I would sign up to hackerspace in Newcastle if one was started, it reminds me of the old computer meet ups from the early 80's at Newcastle's Science Museum 8-). In fact I'm pretty sure the Maker Faire takes place in the same room.

It appears that Newcastle Maker Faires are  taking an "Apple Apps " approach, by vetting and controlling exhibitors at these Faires.

There are a few us of us UK robotics folks who were going to attend, but are rather put off by this less than open approach.

Maker the buck rules  I guess !

Are there any booths open to adhoc entries / show offs? Going to be a bit boring else !
