Bigger Bigger Smaller Smaller Reset Reset

Hi everybody! This is my first post. I've been lurking for the past month or so just getting ideas and inspiration for my project. I wanted to share what I've been working on for my old Mustang.

I initially just wanted to replace the old, broken mechanical speedometer...but ended up with a little something more.

I haven't written up a "true" instructable, but I did post some pics and my code at:
http://www.instructables.com/id/1990-Mustang-GT-Info-Center/

The code is basically just a bunch of cut-and-paste from all over. I've tried to give credit for the sources I could remember.

The only thing I have left to do is hook up my DS18B20 temperature sensor, and play around with a suitable mounting location for the outside temp.

I'd be happy to answer any questions, comments, gripes, etc.

I like it!

I had the idea for a similar project for my car a couple years back, but i knew nothing about electronics at the time and it was too big a job for me then. Glad to see it working. Good job.

Thanks for the feedback. I enjoy it every time I drive my car. I'm trying to resist the urge to replace the text LCD with a full graphic display.

Sweet project! Where are you getting the trip/odometer readings, from the GPS? If so how accurate have you found it to be? Any videos of it in action?

Sorry haven't check the board for awhile. Been working on other projects.

Odometer and tripmeter are calculated from GPS data using a curvature of the Earth calculation to determine distance. You can check it out in the program (latest version is downloadable in my Instructables link). It seems very accurate over the distances I've messed with it. My longest road trip was only about 500 miles since I installed it, though. It's close enough for me. I really contemplated using a wheel sensor or something else, but I think GPS is way more accurate for my application.
