Total newbie to Arduino and these forums.  Attached is an image of a simple led blink sketch along with the serial monitor output.  Why the strange characters in place of numbers 1 through 12, while 13 through 20 output fine?  The pattern repeats.  Thanks in advance.  John

Serial.begin() needs only one instance, in setup();

Do yourself a favor and start using "Tools -> Auto Format" in the IDE.  It'll teach you how to properly indent your code and {'s.
