Bigger Bigger Smaller Smaller Reset Reset

Hi guys, i m a bit lost on that one.
So i m currently running the version 1.0 of arduino IDE from gentoo portage
i have no trouble to compil and upload sketch on the mega.
the trouble is that the serial console of the ide, cat, screen, etc...
do not output data when the ASCIItable sketch or any other sketch using serial communication run on the mega, looks like it crash.

when i try to send a char to the mega using the IDE serial console, the rx led light up on the mega, but it also make it reboot
i also tryed the linux 32bits binary version of the IDE, same symptons...
i tryed all the tricks / tips i've found on the net with no success,
and on windows it just works...

here some information about my software platform:

arch: i686
kernel: 3.2.1-gentoo-r2 (needed drivers are compiled built-in)
avr-gcc: 4.5.3-r2
sys-gcc: 4.5.3-r2
avr-libc: 1.7.1
avr-binutils: 2.20.1-r1
java : sun-jdk-1.6.0.31
ant : 1.8.1
rxtx: 2.2pre2

just tryed the serial loopback, and it works

how, hehe
i just saw i had a bintutils from the old overlay, avr tool chain is rebuilding
