What about a mosfet? Relatively high current capacity with relatively low gate drive.

Another possible choice. If properly sized, properly heatsinked, wired with correct gauge wire and with the typical series gate resistor and gate to source pull-down resistor, and if the user has experience with construction and packaging such circuits a power mosfet can be a good solution. Not sure it's a better and cheaper solution then that inexpensive automotive relay, but it's always nice to have options.

Mosfets seem to be cooler and smaller for the same current.

Also transistors and mosfets are faster and quieter then relays which may or may not be a concern.

Avoid throwing electronics out as you or someone else might need them for parts or use.
Solid state rectifiers are the only REAL rectifiers.
Resistors for LEDS!
