Hi - just came across this Processing tool: InitSketch

http://inittemplatep5.sourceforge.net/InitSketch_P5_Tool/Home.html

It does a simple thing: loads the contents of a default text file into your sketch. If you get tired of always typing setup() etc. or want to use a custom header or comment block, this will do it.

Just tried it in Arduino 21 and it works. (OSX). Perhaps this could be included in the Arduino dist?

geez, that's exciting.  thanks.  So you could do something like this to include functions you wanted in the ide menus.
