Edit IDE code to make it open recent file

instead of a new file when launched.

Is this possible? Sorry if this has been asked before, but the search function of this forum is not really working for me.

The IDE does that already. There was a bug that made the feature stop working in Arduino IDE 1.8.8, but it was fixed before the release of Arduino IDE 1.8.9. Make sure you're using the current IDE version: 1.8.9. You can download it here:
