Slow IDE

I know there have been many messages about slowness before, but:

I have a laptop with a QUAD Intel cpu, a Lenovo. It is running Win10, 64 bits wide. The IDE is very slow to build, taking many minutes, even after it has already built the same sketch, without any changes.

I also have a laptop which is running a DUAL-core Intel CPU 64 bits wide. It also runs Win10. The amount of difference in building a sketch is frightening. The older, smaller CPU builds lightning fast. Same sketch.

This is an older Lenovo T61. The QUAD is a W510.

Any reason anyone can think of for this? I hesitate to post a complete snapshot of each machine, but if anyone thinks it would be useful, I will.

The older machine is running AVG antivirus. The newer one has twice as much memory and is only running the Windows Defender and Spybot.

Any ideas?

Try TEMPORARILY disabling your antivirus to check if that's the cause. I've also noticed that when the Arduino IDE window doesn't have focus the build process pretty much stops, it must have something to do with thread priorities.
