You may want to consider using the 18650 lipo batteries as they are inexpensive and hold a good bit of power. You could use a 6v UBEC to reduce higher voltages down to 6v. If you used two of the 3.7v liops, you could drop the voltage output with just power diodes. Below are some links to see what is available.
