I have to think that SparkFun not prey on newbies, but I'm sure they owe a lot of their trade to them, it seems counter intuitive to market themselves to newbies, far better to appeal to both by being fairly priced? Also there is the risk of people seeing the prices on sparkfun as a barrier to entry into the world of hobby electronics
