I have a project for one of my classes which uses a basic stepper, but me and my partner realized too late that we didn't have a button to activate it, I'm confused in both code and electronics. Help please!

I think you should first explain what it means in your mind "to activate it" with a button.
Sounds like you got as far as activating it (for some definition of "activate") withOUT a button, so if you post that code people can advise how to incorporate the button, once you describe what the button's supposed to do.
