ESP8266 working condition

Hello guys, I wonder if the ESP8266 can work standalone, I only want to mix the sensor and ESP working together, without using the Arduino. So does anybody can answer my question? :slight_smile: :slight_smile: :slight_smile:

If you can’t make it past googling β€œstandalone esp8266”, then I have low expectations for this project.

Yes, but you need some supporting parts to upload code and power the module.
Easier to just buy a WeMos D1 mini.

Mind you, I find the combination of an ESP-01 and a "programmer adapter" most practical. Plugs directly into a phone charger.

I have several ESP82666-01's with temperature sensors around my home. All programmed using the Arduino IDE. But as Wawa said, the Wemos D1 Mini is a far better solution.

An ESP is an alternative to an Arduino. Once you have an ESP, you have something much more capable than an Arduino. The apparent advantage of an Arduino is that you have more I/O, but this is easily added to the ESP using expander boards.

By the way - note the little 1 mF capacitor on the illustration above. This allows a relatively lightweight 3.3 V regulator to power the ESP during its transmitting pulses.

ESP32 hands down....

After about a half-dozen ESP8266-01 projects, I realized that in addition to the ESP module, I was also adding a power regulator like the LM1117. So unless my project already has a stable 3v3 power available, the Wemos D1 Mini is just much easier to work with.

I like the ESP-01/ adapter combination. A really tiny - and cheap - combination for - as I say - up to 4 I/O.
