yes, given you are running Ubuntu 16.04 it should work, keep in mind there are two flows for getting it connected, one where you enter an IP address (need to be on the same subnet for it and have SSH server on your target), and the other where you enter in some commands on your target for it to connect (being on the same network isn't required).
You can also run Arduino Create on the same computer that you upload sketches to, using 127.0.0.1 as the IP address for example.
