SSD1289 in 8bit mode or any other one in 8bit or SPI

Hi,
I'm still searching for a 8bit screen and found this topic : 320x240 LCD with integrated SSD1289 controller - Page 5 - Raspberry Pi Forums
It seems possible to modify SSD1289 screens to use them in 8bit.
Has one of you tried this?
Do you know if it is working with all screen, such as this one? http://cgi.ebay.fr/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370668505157

If this is not working, do you know any other screen usable in 8bit or with SPI with a size around 3in? I know it is technically possible to drive a 16bit screen with some 75HC595, but I want to avoid this.
Thanks,

Whether a screen can be adapteed to a different mode depends on whether the mode select
lines are brought out on the flex-pc connector (even then they may be hard to get to on the
module's pcb if the display is glued onto the pcb.)
