Changing my user name?

Greetings,
I had the same nick name for about 10 years now. In the mean time, I would like to change it to "bytecode77", my new nick name.

Is that possible?

Thanks!

have you tried it in your profile?

As moderator I cannot change AFAIK.

You could consider starting a new account ...

Yes, same here. I've had this nickname for too long and it's time it went, but I haven't yet found a method to change it.

Maybe I need to pm an admin sometime.
Best I wait before doing that as my simple wish I am sure is going to be a long long way down their priority list.

Or, if an admin reads this, maybe you can change it to 'Paul Alting', just my name, well the first part as the whole thing is just way too long, (yes yes, it's Dutch)

Paul

Well, is an administrator able to change it? I would say yes. Would you be as good as to contact one and point him to this thread?

That would be wonderful. My list of places where I need to change my nick name is already down to only a couple and I really don't want to loose this account.

Greetings.

There does not seem to be any provision for changing your screen name*. This must be one of the improvements introduced in the new forum.

  • Including by moderators.

Let's say Nick Gammon wanted to change his nick name to Chooks.
Who would know him any more?

All the old posts that refer to Nick Gammon would now refer to someone who doesn't exist.

Many forum programs use the user name as the main index, it is not therefore something that is designed to be changed without some hands-on SQL coding. I don't know if that it the case here or not.

Anyway DC with only 55 posts wouldn't it be easier to just start again? I've seen people here with serious problems who lost their username and 100s of post with it and no amount of pleading got the problem fixed AFAIK. So unless it's a simple option somewhere I don't like your chances.

Purely hypothetically.

Fine. Then please delete my account.

However, see this:

You really cannot change your login email, it will be reset on the next login. To use another email you need to create a new account. For us IDs are emails (at least now, could change in the future).

Thanks,

Luca

Thus I advise you to not change your email provider, as you'll have to make a new forum account.

That's ridiculous.
Tons of forum software let you change your e-mail address, as people do move now and then.
Of course you need to have some way of confirming that it is really the owner of the old address that is moving, but the other forum/boards have some mechanism for that.
Not being able to change your e-mail address and keep your profile is so 1980's (i couldn't change my e-mail addresses at any site then).

No offense, but your forum sucks. Arduino is cool, the community is awesome, but the forum lacks important features! Yes, you also can't change the email address. What a shame!

I now created a new user. You can delete the old one.

Is that you Devils Child?

Yes.

I don't particularly like deleting users (unless their only "contribution" is spam, of course). That leaves a whole lot of threads with answers but no questions, or replies which don't make sense.

Personally I think it is weird that the forum won't let you change your user name or email address, but that's just me perhaps.

I can see an argument against changing user names (maybe limit that to moderators) because when posts are quoted the original name appears in the quote, and if you change names then the quote is unattributed, or attributed to the wrong person.

@nickgammon did something changed?
I still cannot change my username. I really want to. I know that I can delete my account, but that's not the point.

Don’t use the current user name any more.

Create a new one and just use it.

.

I can't change my name either and I'm a moderator.

The report has been there since May 2017 and no-one is even assigned to fix it, so I guess it isn't a high priority issue for them. Try commenting on the bug report or send an email to:
