Arduino DC adapter- can I switch center pin - to center pin + ?

Hello,

I have an old DC adapter that is 9v, 500mA but has a negative middle pin.

Could I just cut the wires and reverse them? Would that create a 9v 500mA middle pin positive? Or... am I missing something?
