Temperatures

Bit cold in the northeast today, -6F when I left the house.

Wow, that's -21C.... right now it's that here too, but + 8)

21C would be nice right now
Supposed to warm up to -3C this afternoon.
Glad I have heated seats in the car!

Some years ago, my nephew a South African by birth, got a working holiday visa thingy for the US. He left here on a summer day at 25C and disembarked somewhere up in the NE USA (Maine or NH, not sure, somewhere there) to a temp of exactly the same but -. So a 50C swing literally overnight.

Then he got a job on a ski-lift... I think he's still suffering from that.

But then he went totally the other extreme and has lived in the UAE for some years where 50C isn't unheard of.

Speaking of temperature extremes, I grew up here...

And, yes, that place gets some freakish weather (but tornadoes are extremely rare and never hurricanes )

Dallas is a bit brisk today but no -6F. We have a chance of freezing rain over the weekend. It should be illegal for Texans to drive in those conditions. (Fortunately most are wise enough to just stay home.)

I hate when it's Boston cold. The liquid on my eyeballs gets tacky.

We've had temps in the high 30's to low 40's, a massive bush fire, now it's in the low 20's and we are bracing for the "most rainfall in 30 years" over the next few days.

This is a timelapse of the first night the fire was burning out of control

ps

have we lost the "flash" button?????

Sounds like roughly where I live*.

Annoying, that.

a few days ago here we had a 44 C day followed by a day that was 34 C. did notice that later that same week a "dry" lightening storm occurred. ("dry" instead of just dry to emphasise the fact that there must exist moisture still only its not being precipitated all the way to ground. )

44C! We never get that warm in the Boston, MA (northeast US).
We might see a couple days to a week of 37C, 38C (~100F) during the summer.
Same for this really cold weather - couple days of really cold in the winter. We haven't seen below 0F temps in about 4 years.
Up here, three 90+F days is considered a heatwave - down Dallas way, I think 100+F is used.
Too hot for me!

last year over forty became daily expectation value for at least a week i think but its the rapid drops and rises that creates anxiety for me. well. to the extent im able to feel anxiety. but on another we need to copy you guys and reinforce our power grid for protection against a solar storm LMFAO thats the day i have to leave lol.

This is data on the day that my air-con failed from the Temperature and Humidity Sensor that I built. These are indoor temperatures (my study where I do my electronics):

There are two temperature readings (two different sensors) to compare to each other. The light level shows how light the room is.

As you can see, it reached 40.5 degrees C at 2:45 pm that day. That was unworkable.

but temperatures data from -7F to +40C can support earth is round?

-25C three days ago, +1C today. :disappointed_relieved:
Western Canada

Hi, had 38DegC the other day, then dropped to 28DegC in hour, humidity went from 35% to 75% in same time as rain fell.
Only good thing was that it helped to control some bushfires.

Tom....
House mind you stayed at 27DegC inside and didn't drop to 20DegC for two days, even though we had the doors and windows open.

And you tell that to t'kids of today....

lol if AI is invented and tech becomes concious first thing to attempt killing me is the evaporatitive air con system teamed up with all laptops i have ever used.

We waited for you at the Bar-B-Q pit but you did not show :frowning:

Did you know:
It is a known fact that the penguin is a very ritualistic bird, which lives an extremely ordered and
complex life. The penguin is very committed to its family and will mate for life, as well as
maintain a form of compassionate contact with its offspring throughout its life.

If a penguin is found dead on the ice surface, other members of the family and social circle
have been known to dig holes in the ice, using their vestigial wings and beaks,
until the hole is deep enough for the dead bird to be rolled into, and buried.
The male penguins then gather in a circle around the fresh grave and sing:

"Freeze a jolly good fellow."
"Freeze a jolly good fellow."
