I don't know enough (i.e. nothing) about pduino or PureData so I am not going to advise about its suitability.
My instinct is that it represents an extra layer of software for the Arduino that will consume valuable CPU cycles which may prevent the project achieving the required performance - but I have no idea what the Arduino will be expected to do.
Without seeing the stepper driver datasheet I am not prepared to advise about it either. I am always wary when I see devices with D-connectors. They are not usually associated with Arduinos.
That does NOT mean that an Arduino could not control the device - just that I don't know and I don't want you to waste money on my advice.
