I have the new Ardui9no FPGA MKR Vidor 4000 and trying to set it up.
I have the latest Arduino IDE 1.8.5 and you would think it would have
the latest Boards, but no.

1.6.19 is the latest version of Arduino SAMD Boards. In fact, I don't think you even need to have Arduino SAMD Boards installed to use the Vidor, you only need Arduino SAMD Beta Boards. The screenshot in the Arduino MKR Vidor 4000 Getting Started page must have been made with an internal development version of Arduino SAMD Boards that's not available to the public. Those installation instructions are really of very low quality and quite confusing. Considering how important good documentation is to Arduino's target market, it's really a shame they don't make a better effort.
Since you're using the Vidor, and not the Zero, let's continue any discussion on the original thread to avoid confusion.
