Are deer ticks the ones that carry Lyme? I had a friend who got that, and it took him 3 years to recover.

I suppose it must be genes but I am surprised it is so hardwired. Snakes really could  not have posed a serious threat to my ancestors for millennia. Yet a snake appears and there is no OMG  "that's a snake" moment there was absolutely no concious recognition or decision involved my body, of its own accord, just leapt back.

The closest experience I can relate it to is when you knock a glass off a counter. Without thinking or even really realising you have knocked something over you just reach out and catch it - sometimes :-)

The deer do carry and spread ticks and I get bitten every year, that is another reason I try to discourage them. The problem with Lymes disease is that it is easy to treat if you catch it early but you may not know you even have it.

rather confused by the combination of what you said, and the angry smilies...  :smiley-confuse:

it wasn't in my freezer, and returned again at some point today, judging by the tracks in the mud that were not there this morning.

Boardburner was suggesting you take some knives and take it to bits and store it in your freezer neatly as to make steaks. I agree. Kill the deer.
