Freeduino Board

I have bought a Freeduino USB 1.1 board. with Atmega 8 @ 16MHz.
I have downloaded the IDE for Mac.
When I connect this to my Macbook Pro(Mac OS 10.8.3) the power LED comes on and after a while the second led begins to blink.
The Blink LED sketch gets compiled.(I selected Aruino NG or older w/Atmega8. (Freeduino board is not listed).
On uploading it returns an error
Serial port...... is being used. Please try quitting application using the port.
Request Forum members' help.
Best Regards.

Did you select the USB serial port going to your Freeduino in Tools->Serial Port? If it doesn't show up you probably need to install a driver.

I do not see the usbserial or usbmodem port in the list under Tool>Ports.
I downloaded the FTDI driver dmg file from FTDI website.
MAC OSX did not allow to install the driver saying that it is not from a reliable source.
What to do?
Regards.

I have been able to install the usb drivers.
On uploading this is the error that I get.

In the arduino IDE 1.5.2 do we need to select the programmer under Tools > programmer?
These are the options that I have
AVR ISP
AVRISP mkII (Default selection)
USB tinyISP
USBasp
Parallel Programmer
Arduino as ISP

1: avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
2: do we need to select the programmer under Tools > programmer?

1: Perhaps your Freeduino uses a different data rate than the " Aruino NG or older w/Atmega8". You should check with the Freeduino people to see what configuration they require.

2: No. The bootloader allows the Arduino to get uploads directly via USB-Serial. You only need to select a Programmer for "Tools->Burn Bootloader" or "File->Upload Using Programer".

Free?duino

Was it free? lol

  • you need the ftdi drivers (check system / config and see if it's detected it via control panel)

once installed, it should be fine... (providing you picked the right chip to program)

Do you have a link to where this board comes from? For better or worse, the "Freeduino" project specifically avoided trademarking that name, and while that's all wonderfully open-sourcey and stuff, it means that the name doesn't uniquely identify which board you are talking about. (The original "freeduino" boards were all ATmega328p-based, for example.)

Hey, check it out, I was right. Some aurdinos are acting funky. I have the same problem, in my post too. Seems like something fishy is here...
