Windows 8.1 Driver Install Fail

My PC with windows 8.1 does not install the driver for Arduino Uno. I followed the directions for manual driver installation, and the driver is found, but the operating system reports an error when trying to install it. It doesn't specify what the error is.

I have successfully installed the driver on my windows 7 computer with no problem using the same Uno board, so I am assuming it has something to do with the windows 8.1 operating system.

Any solutions?

The certificate used for signing the driver has expired so you have to go through some hoops to install it.

  • Change date temporarily to Dec 1, 2013
  • Install the driver
  • Set date to correct date

Both steps below require Admin

  • Goto Start Screen
  • Type "Change Date" (brings up search and the first entry should be the one that takes you to the settings to change date

Thank you so much! I changed the date, successfully installed the driver, changed the date back, and now I am able to use the Uno with my windows 8.1 machine.

I really appreciate the help.

This worked for me too. Thanks, I would never have figured this one out. (Stupid microsft, fail with no explanation!)

Thank you from me as well. It works well again as before!!
Cheers mate

Just wanted to say I had the same problem installing drivers for Uno R3 on Windows 8.1 Pro, but if you download the Arduino 1.5.6-r2 release, it contains drivers that will work without having to monkey with your date
