Title: Supply from China, suggestions please?
Post by: seratechi on Aug 18, 2008, 08:56 am
Hi, Guys:

This is Eric, I'm a fans of Arduino from China.

I've created a tiny studio in focus of interaction engineering, in hope of creating a business of hobby. Here is the link: www.seeedstudio.com .

Suggestions are sincerely welcomed~ ;)

Thanks,

Eric

(I'm not sure if it is OK to discuss business in the forum, apologize if I overlooked the rule.)

Eric,

Trying to find a Graphic KS0108 LCD 128x64 with LED Backlight.
Need one with black pixels and gray background or white pixels and black background.
Anything you can source?
Thanks,

Sure, I have some Blue backlight ones like this: http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/graphic-lcd-128x64-stn-led-backlight-p-92.html

How many do you need for B/W ones? I'll put some online after 6th, it's national holiday now.

Thanks

Eric,

So the same LCD model:LEDSTN12864 from your site is available in Black with white pixels?
Well, only need a sample at first so one to start with in black and white. Could order a blue and white one at the same time.
Did you have any with gray(neutral) background and black pixels?
And what about prices?

I need to check the price for B/W or gray/Black ones, the supplier is not working these days. I'll keep you posted whenever quote is ready.

Also, please let me know you have preference for size. Appreciated ;)

No problem, i know that the amount of holiday days in China are very limitid so enjoy  :).
If you can source LCD´s in the same size as the one you have on your site that would be perfect.
But not bigger then 100 x 95 x 16mm.

Hulk- Excuse us for keep you waiting so long. ;)

We have sourced some KS0108 compatible LCD in stock now. You may check them out in our LCD section: http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/parts-lcd-c-32_8.html

From our current supplier, we haven't got 12864 ones in Gray/Black or B/W with KS0108 controller. If you could wait for about one week, we could source one and validate its quality, but the price would be a little higer since we might not want to buy in bulks.

Maybe you want to try 192*64 ones instead? They are awesome too and with in your dimension.

Eric,

Thanks for your feedback, quality seems to be very good.
I could wait for a week, but i would like to know what the price difference is approximately?
192*64 are nice but to big for my application, sorry.

I notice that Eric has a link on his site to the Arduino playground library. Let me know when you have it hooked up and working and I will add it to the list of compatible panels.

Mem,

As soon as i have it in my post box and i have tested the module with your library i will give you my feedback Mem. If not anybody else will beat me to it.

Eric, I just noticed you have a 192x64 display on your site noted as compatible with the PlaygroundGLCD library http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/graphic-lcd-19264-ks0108-ctrl-black-and-white-p-143.html

I am a little surprised it works. The library code was written assuming two controller chips each up to 64 pixels wide. Does the panel have two controllers each 96 bits wide or three controllers?

Has it been tested with the library?

If it doesn't work, send me a Personal Message and I will see if I can help with some mods to the library to get it going.

Hulk -  Let us test the one with probe pins tommorow for all your questions :)

mem - We have tested the 12864 ones in hand with the library and they worked fine. The 19264 ones has difference in pin15 and pin16 used for CS, http://www.topwaydisplay.com/Pub/Manual/LM19264ABY-Manual-Rev0.1.pdf. It would be grateful if you could mod the library to handle the 00 state. Anyway, we should be cautious in stating the compatibility, excuse us for that.   :-[

The 192x64 pixel panel has three controller chips, the 128x64 panels has two.
Supporting more than two controller chips gets a little complicated. With just two controllers, the code just toggles between one and the other whenever the 64 bit boundary is crossed. With three or more chips, all the other chips need to be disabled. I think this is best done by adding a new method for controller chip selection. The method itself is not complicated (it would deselect all chips and select the chip with the x address modulo  64). But modifying the code to call this method in all the places needed requires some care.  Feel free to produce a suitable version of the code if you want to ( I will be happy to give you advice) , but until code has been modified and tested, it would not be accurate to describe the 192 pixel panel as compatible so would respectfully ask you to modify that statement on the product pages with the 192 pixel panels

Let me know if I can be of help

Sure, my apologize for the rash statement. We are working on the library now, thanks!  :)

Eric,

Another thing i am looking for is a project box.
It should be black and in metal such as aluminum or some other light metal with a good finish.
Size should be according to link below.
http://www.bopla.de/uploads/tx_commerce/mediando/P_Zeichnungen_PDF/84080100__2801326.pdf

This may be hard to find, but nothing wrong in asking.  ;)
The brand of this box is Bopla and model is Alubos 800, nice quality but way to expensive (20Euro).

HULK - I'm afraid there is not going to be exactly same case, but there are some shell for hardrivers are fancy and elegant too. Let me check them out and reply later. Very nice selection! ;)

I don't find such small case with water-proof rubber, but there are really some good cases from our supplier. Here is a close one:

Eric,

That one is nice, i like it. I could color it black if i want to my self and make the lenght of it shorter by cutting.
But i need the inner dimensions of the box to be at least 25mm wide and 70mm high. Will be hard to mount my lcd i have ordered in that box.
If this is the lcd i have put an order for from you it is 70mm high.
http://www.topwaydisplay.com/Pub/Drawing/MK-001734a-1-1(LM12864LDW%20Outline).pdf
If not, could you provide me with the dimensions for the lcd i ordered so i can check?
In the box i also need to fit a ATMega 644 and accelerometer module therefore i need it to be 25mm wide.
See my problem?

The LCD you ordered is 92mm*70mm*12mm, you may want to give me a range of internal dimension that I'll ask the supplier for a fit one.

Looking forward to see your project whenever finishes;D
Title: Re: Supply from China, suggestions please?
Post by: HULK on Oct 16, 2008, 04:00 pm
Eric,

Then i would need the inner dimensions to be at least 95mm*70mm*25mm.
Give me feedback with sizes you can provide and i will select one, if it could be exactly 95mm*70mm*25mm that would be good.
Give my project a month or so and it should be up and running in my car with the parts you have provided me with  :)

Hi Eric,

So, I'm not promising I'll buy them if you stock them :) but I'm curious about the price/availability/minimum quantity of the following:

1) "Joystick" style mini-switches (4 way + push) like those here (http://www.knitter-switch.com/pdf_en/3_7_2%20TSJ%20TSSJ.pdf). In order of preference: TSJ 31, TSSJ 30, TSSJ 5.

2) Tiny square-ish monochrome dot matrix LCD--"Tamagotchi" size or like this (http://www.gadgetell.com/images/012006/pocketstationandmemorystick.jpg) or this (http://www.menstech.com/UserFiles/Image/cube_world_05022006-post02.jpg).

Thanks.

HULK - There are countless dimensions, and customized manufacturing is possible. But for <10 pcs, I have to check the market for ready-to-go samples. Here is one might meet your requirement: http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/aluminium-case-for-small-projects-1138035-mm-with-ears-p-155.html
And the LCD is arrived, we have lit it to validate. It's exactly the same with the one your ordered, but pure gray indeed.: http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/graphic-lcd-12864-ks0108-ctrl-white-and-dark-gray-p-152.html

Phil - Thanks for the inquiry. We are now increasing our stock, so it would be greatly appreciated for suggest your demands, we don't consider it an obligation to order at all. ;)
1) There are very wide selection of these joysticks here, I'll choose some kind with great quality and list them.
2) I have seen these small LCDs, likely 128*128. They are usually FPC plugs, we will supply some jack for it whenever sourced.

Nice products as usual Eric,

Could you update the status of the LCD so i can order, your site is saying sold out. Hope nobody managed to buy it before me  :).
I will order one of each boxes you have now and see which one pleases me best. But for now no need for customized manufacturing.

Eric,

I think you could add listed things below to your stock.

Chips:
ATMega 328
ATMega 644

Buttons such as high quality once in metal, off/on or off - (ON)

Maybe some packages with mixed resistors, capacitors, connectors and so on.

follower - Please take references of these, MPQ=0:
Joystick switch - ALPS original, premium quality. cheaper ones available upon request :
http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/alps-skqu-4-direction-joystick-w-switch-p-161.html
128 * 128 panel - I don't run into smaller square ones with available small sample, 1k+ will be enough for customization:
http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/graphic-lcd-128128-cog-panel-p-162.html (this one is a bit complex through)

HULK - Metals buttons are really awesome... If not for the cost, I would definitely make a monome with the LED ones myself ::)

:-) Thanks for looking into this for me.

As a matter of interest, how much cheaper are the cheaper ones?

Quote

Do you mean smaller physical size at 128 x 128 resolution or at any resolution? My interest would be more at 20mm x 20mm @ closer to 32 x 32 resolution.

I poked around a little bit more on SparkFun and others and am thinking maybe I need to look at the Nokia 3310 LCD (http://www.amontec.com/lcd_nokia_3310.shtml) even though it's a bit on the large size for what I'm wanting. Although I was intrigued to see the LCD in this: ScreenKey RG Graphic Button (http://www.sparkfun.com/commerce/product_info.php?products_id=8492)

Incidentally, your conversion to Australian Dollars (the closest I could find to New Zealand Dollars) seems to be extremely incorrect (too low) in relation to the US Dollar price.

Thanks again for answering my query on this, I appreciate you taking the time to do so.

The cheaper joystick button would be half the price.

The 128*128 LCD I have is 55mm square, I'll let you know when some 32*32 is available by luck. - This is not an usual stock for most suppliers.

I think I might limit the currency to USD in the depot... the vibration is too tremendous :(

Thanks for the ideas!

All,

I have recived some items from Seeedstudio, my words below are simply the truth.
 :)
A perfect company to deal with i must say, fast shipping from Hong Kong and the packaging is done with care.
The sourcing service is great and we should not even talk about the prices  ;D.
