Title: Error when trying to Bootload a ATMega328P-PU
Post by: Ash4004 on Dec 17, 2011, 04:53 am
I am trying to take the ATMega and build it into a custom circuit.  I have used a protoboard and everything works fine, now I want to take the Micro Controller off the Arduino and install it directly onto the Breadboard.  I am following this tutorial, http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ArduinoToBreadboard (http://arduino.cc/en/Tutorial/ArduinoToBreadboard) with the Minimal Circuit method.  I can not get the bootloader to load.  I have the right hardware selected, I have checked my wiring.  I have been searching the forums but can not find and good answers.  Has anyone been able to solve this problem?

One thing that I am questioning is does  a Microcontroller need to be installed when loading the bootloader?  And if so can I use a SMD Edition to do it?  I get the same error weather I use the Arduino Uno that I took the chip from and when I use the SMD Edition.  I don't get that.

Thanks cyclegadget.  That seems like a good tutorial, the only problem is I don't have the necessary components.  I can order them, but I am making a present for my friend and I am afraid that if I wait for them to be shipped I won't have enough time.

Has anyone had success using the minimal settings?  If so how did you do it?
