MKR1000 Battery Use

Hi Everyone,
Recently I acquired several of the MKR1000 boards and they work great when powering up with the micro usb plug but when I use a 3.7V 2000mAh LiPo I noticed that the VCC will show 3.3V but the green power LED does not light up. Is that how it is supposed to operate? So the green LED only powers on when the micro usb is plugged in? Just want to make sure that it is operating correctly.

Thats correct.

Its just a power saving mode.

If power (5v) is applied to the Vin rather than the USB port will the green power LED be extinguished?

And, using this type of connection, will the MKR also correctly charge a battery connected to the battery jack?
