Topic: Complete Noob here! Trouble installing Core for Due board? (Read 806 times) previous topic - next topic

jlansaw

I'm completely new to Arduino. I have installed Arduino IDE 1.8.5 on my windows 10 computer. I have chose to work with a Due board which I understand needs the SAM core installed however when I go to Tools>Boards>Board Manager, the core is not listed and I see a download error in orange at the bottom of the Boards Manager window. I also then have errors in the message area when I return to the GUI? I expected a steep learning curve however I thought I could at least load the software without any problems but I was wrong. Can some one help me through this? :smiley-confuse:

Thanks in advance,
Jeff

Post the full contents of the error message.

Does that system have a working internet connection? Is any firewall/security software preventing the IDE from connecting to the internet?

Sorry but i can not figure out how to post the errors?

The error shown in Boards Manager can't be selected so you just need to type it out. The error shown in the black console window at the bottom of the Arduino IDE can be selected:
  • Click on the black window
  • press ctrl+a - this will select all
  • press ctrl+c - this will copy the selection to the clipboard
  • switch to this forum thread
  • Click on the code tags button (</> button on the reply toolbar).
  • press ctrl+v -this will paste the contents of the clipboard inside the code tags
  • Click "Post"

Thank you pert
When I opened board manager this morning to copy the errors, all the cores appeared for the first time without errors. I closed it, reopened it and the errors appeared again. Here's the error

Have you added the Arduino IDE to your firewall's whitelist?

So, I added the IDE to my firewall whitelist. Now I can get all of the cores to show up. However when I choose the board for Due (1.6.11) it will not install and I get the following errors....

Is this a Java issue?

Jeff

jlansaw

Thanks to pert and DrAzzy for making an effort to help me however I'm still not successful finding out what the errors mean and what is the cause. Any help is appreciated. 160+ views, I'm surprised nobody else has chimed in? I can't be the first and only person that has had this issue.

You're certainly not the first.

Try this:
  • Click the link at the line following File > Preferences > More preferences can be edited directly in the file.
  • Delete all files in that folder except for preferences.txt. Please be very careful when deleting things on your computer. When in doubt back up!
  • Try installing Arduino SAM Boards again.

Try this:
[list type=decimal
[li]Click the link at the line following File > Preferences > More preferences can be edited directly in the file.[/li]
[li]Delete all files in that folder except for preferences.txt. Please be very careful when deleting things on your computer. When in doubt back up![/li]
[li]Try installing Arduino SAM Boards again.[/li]
[/list]

I get the same results with errors.

Just a follow up on my original problem. I have managed to get it to work. I ran across old posts elsewhere of someone having the same issues. Their fix was the following:
Open command prompt (windows start button, type cmd in search)
Click top left of command prompt, click properties, enable quick edit mode
Copy: setx _JAVA_OPTIONS -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true
Right click on command prompt, should paste
Hit enter. That easy!

I tried this and it worked. I don't understand what it did, but it did work. Apparently a problem with Java? All the cores in board manager loaded and install properly. I can now move on.

Thanks,
Jeff
