I've just moved to Linux Mint 19 from an earlier version and now I am having trouble connecting to the Arduino.
It seems to work ok from a fresh boot, but various things (I've not diagnosed entirely) such as unplugging the Arduino upset it: once plugged back in I get the error in the title:

Code: [Select]
avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "/dev/ttyUSB1": Permission denied
Or
Code: [Select]
avrdude: stk500_recv(): programmer is not responding
avrdude: stk500_getsync() attempt 1 of 10: not in sync: resp=0x00

Have you done this?:

I think so, but I'll do it again to be sure...

ETA. Apparently I hadn't: I get
Code: [Select]
ls: cannot access '/dev/ttyACM*': No such file or directory
