Topic: Bootloadeer LED does not flash and sketch does not upload (Read 1 time) previous topic - next topic

I connect my Aurduino UNO to the PC via USB and the power LED glows steadily but the LED connected to pin number 13 (bootloader one) does not flash! Not even after pressing the reset button till my arms ache. :P
But I ignore it and continue to upload the sketch.. It compiles (:D cheers) but does not upload and error says that "avrdude: ser_open(): can't open device "\\.\COM1": The system cannot find the file specified.
"
I checked my Device manager but no COM port shows up there.
Even the correct option of Aurduino Guniea/Uno is selected on the sofware.

Please help me. I am not able to program my first aurduino.. I really want to do so.

Drivers are not installed.

Is your board a clone? Check the part number on the chip near the USB port - if it's a CH340G, you need to download the driver (google for ch340g driver ), as it's not included with the IDE since there are no official boards that used that.

A link to it if purchased online or photo would help!

If the L LED does not flash when the Arduino is plugged in and powered on and you tap the reset button, and you paid full price, I recommend returning it.   The bootloader is not installed or the ATmega328P chip is bad.   If you got a bargain or no returns allowed, you can use another working Arduino as an ISP programmer, or buy an inexpensive ISP programmer such as USBasp online, and burn the bootloader using the Arduino IDE.   If you can't burn the bootloader without errors, you can replace the ATmega328P chip.

You should do the Loop Back Test to check the USB-to-serial connection.   The Loop Back Test details are in one of the pinned threads at the top of the forum.   You need to have both the USB-to-serial connection and the bootloader working in order to upload.

Okay, so it uses a 16u2 for USB-serial conversion, like an "official" one.

Are you getting the COM port now?

If not, how could you have done the loopback test?

I just connected those wores as described on the post and connected the usb to usb slot. and no notification for new device connected popped up. :(

If nothing is showing up at all in device manager, not even an unknown device or device with problem, either the USB port is bad, the USB cable is bad (this is astonishingly common) or the board is bad and you should return it to the store.
