This would not be needed if you connected the A0 to A3 pins to Arduino output pins, and had the sketch set them to outputs and had the outputs set to low.
If you left them unconnected they were floating.

I figured that out later on :)

When i did a manual test using a multimeter
I had to use the resistors, but as you said, with the
Arduino there was no need.
