Topic: rx and tx jumper on gps shield. (Read 1 time) previous topic - next topic

Hye everyone!  :) :)

I'm using GPS shield Itead studio v1.1 in my project. Tomorrow is my turn to present the project to the panels. But I'm still wondering, why do we have to disconnect the jumper on tx and rx pin on the GPS shield before uploading the GPS sketch to fetch data? Since the sketch can not be uploaded with the jumpers on the shield. I'm preparing the answers before being asked by the panels tomorrow. Please help me  :smiley-red: :smiley-red:

The bootloader and the GPS both use the hardware serial port.  If the GPS is sending messages to the serial port the bootloader can't.

This is only necessary on Arduino's with a single UART / hardware serial. port. The USB boot loader use the same hardware serial port to upload your sketch to the Atmel MCU. If you use something like the MEGA2560, you could connect the GPS to Serial ports 1 - 3, without having to disconnect it since the USB bootloader use serial port0
