Hi I'm having a small relay issue. I just got this power relay (http://www.digikey.com/product-search/en?x=-1307&y=-73&lang=en&site=us&KeyWords=orwh-sh-112d) and I can't figure out why it won't switch from NC to NO. I run 5VDc through the coil (1.2VDc min and 8.4VDc max on the datasheet), but the relay seems to always be stuck in NC. I'm using it to connect the ground end of a 12v power supply. Is the relay just broken or is there something I'm missing?

I think they mean it needs 8,4V mini to switch on, and you're sure it will switch off under 1,2V
I don't understand their "MAX" and "MIN" but....
Did you measure the coil resistance ? Is it 400 Ohm ?
Did you try with a 9V or 12V power source ??

When you apply power to the mechanical relay you'll hear the contacts close with a click sound...

If you have a multimeter what's the resistance of the coil?

12v relay but max voltage is 8.4v

Kinda like saying... here's a pint glass but we will only fill it 3/4ths of the capacity?!

Coil resistance is 400 ohms, and I tried to switch it using a 9v battery still no luck.

The 8.4v is for the the coil, you can run 12v through the pole.

nope :

5 volt DC will not operate the 12 volt dc coil, it needs a min of 8.4vdc to click on. It's designed to have 12vdc applied to the coil to operate.

Yup you're right, I misread the datasheet now it's working with 12v running through the coil. Thanks for the help everyone.
