Is it correct to say there will be almost no benefit, in terms of power consumption, to put the Yun to sleep using the routines given by the library sleep.h ?

That is the conclusion I reached from my own tests but would like to confirm with the gurus...

Thanks

That's not completely true. I tried sleep mode and my power consumption goes from 270mA to 220mA... So it's not too much but is quite 20% less.

Toggio, you are right, I repeated the measurements and found 15% of savings using sleep mode.

Thanks!

The Arduino Yún is a microcontroller board based on the ATmega32u4 and the Atheros AR9331.

ATmega32u4  use ~15% power. and put it sleep only help that 15%.

The rest 85% use by AR9331, USB hub IC and Voltage Regulator...

Put AR9331 into sleep mode is not starter's job. since Atheros does not market AR9331 as ultra low power device.

Plus Yun is  not designed for battery operation make  situation further worst.

@sonnyyyu,
Nice work .

I am trying to use the Yun as a data logger in a remote location with limited power .
I need the yun to :
- make some time striped data measurements
- write these to the SD card
- possibly wifi that data to Temboo --> which in turn will gmail data and also place in a spreadsheet.

It would seem  great to be able to have a command set to sleep the  the whole Yun as my measurements need only be performed once 1/2 or every hour .

Possible solution-
One alternative would be to have a 2nd low power during sleep timer board that powers up the Yun evry half hr (or hour ) and then turns off via a Yun output  that indicates to this timing board when the measurements and processing are completed .

Any ideas what board would suite this job ?

if you know how to programming, Append a spreadsheet in google docs without Temboo.

super smart idea

Use Customer version of Yun- AR9331+ Arduino Uno/Mega/Due save 2nd low power arduino.
