Topic: Yun and serial monitor issues - process example (Read 876 times) previous topic - next topic

Hi,

I have been trying the process example from the Yun getting started page (http://arduino.cc/en/Guide/ArduinoYun#toc18).
The previous examples all worked, but this one does not. Either something is wrong, or I am doing something wrong.

Very early in the example there is the code

Code: [Select]
// Wait until a Serial Monitor is connected.
  while (!Serial);

and I think it just gets stuck in that while loop.

I am currently running the following sketch:

Code: [Select]
#include <Process.h>

void setup() {
  // Initialize Bridge
  Bridge.begin();

  // Initialize Serial
  Serial.begin(9600);

  pinMode(13,OUTPUT);

  // Wait until a Serial Monitor is connected.
  while (!Serial)
  {
  digitalWrite(13,HIGH);
  delay(200);
  digitalWrite(13,LOW);
  delay(200);
  }

}

void loop() {
  digitalWrite(13,HIGH);
  delay(1000);
  digitalWrite(13,LOW);
  delay(1000);
}

and I see LED 13 blinking at the high blinking rate.

I had thought that if I would open the serial monitor, it would start flashing slower, but that does not happen.

Maybe I am opening the serial monitor incorrectly? In the arduino IDE I do: Tools --> Serial Monitor
When I do that I get an extra window, with at the top my Yun's IP address (192.168.1.7), but for the rest nothing. The baudrate in the monitor is set to 9600.

What am I doing wrong? Anyone else with a Yun that has gotten this (not) to work?

Thanks in advance,

Nico

found it...works only when yun is connected via USB. Should better be mentioned on the getting started page.
